Ok what is the deal with all my shows ending??

Ok I am fully aware that many of you will consider this whining but you have to admit 2008 and 2009 has definitely seen the death of a lot of very popular shows. So here is my list of my favorites that are hitting the end of series mark this year.

  • Boston Legal
  • Stargate Atlantis
  • Battlestar Galactica
  • Survivorman
  • The 4400
  • Jericho
I am seriously thinking about just stopping my TV intake cause you get all caught up (sniff) in the characters lives (sniff sniff) and you just want them ... to not have "mad cow"... defeat the Wraith... make it to Earth... eat more grubs... figure out what is Jordan Collier power... or really know what the hell is up with Robert Hawkins?? So to my shows and their various characters I will miss you so much. My Sunday... Monday... Wednesday.. and Friday nights will be ever so empty without you.

Bush hit by shoe in Iraq

Ok I'm sorry but that is pure comedy lol.

Burger King Commercial is pissing me off!!

Ok I'm sure most of you have seen the ever so clever "Whopper Virgins"campaign. Well if you notice in the commercial they have some native Greenlandic people in their traditional garb. Humm the picture here has some of the same people...what.... is that a burger that I just happened to have there not a kilometer away from where I took the picture? Hmm you know what???....I'm thinking they have had burgers before. Yep most definitely they have had burgers before cause I ate a freggin one while I was there!!! Truthfully the reason the people would probably choose the Whopper over any other burger is because they make them the same way over there. Anyway I've said my peace.

scarlet takes a tumble

Some dedicated students waited up to 3 hours to vote.

Dont Vote

Today is the the day!

Well it has been a long ride but the day is finally here. By the end of today sans any craziness we will have a new president elect. Of course I am pulling for Obabma but either way history will be made in that a minority will either hold the highest seat in the land or co-seat lol. It is a historic day I just hope everyone will stay sane today. The catch with all this change coming is that emotions are so high that I am honestly scared for peoples lives. I just saw on the news that the polling lines are rapped around buildings in the rain. As great a civic action as this is I just see a recipe for trouble. I keep thinking about that person who doesnt know you arent allowed to wear political parafanelia (except in Virgnia Beach lol) coming into the polls with a t-shirt on with their prescribed canidate getting rejected from the polling place and then tempers flairing. I just really hope people keep their cool and allow this day to happen peacefully.

I am all set for the new Mac Laptop announcement

Well I guess this is my last chance to make any predictions for the event today. Unfortunately I will not be able to watch any of the live text streams because of class but you can bet your LCII that I will be reading what happened the minute I hit my office. So here are my picks

  • The new case will have the beveled edges of the Macbook Air
  • There will be a new Macbook Air
  • Full Multi-touch trackpad
  • A sub $1000 entry laptop
  • Glass screens with LED backlight for the Macbook Pros
  • BlueRay burner option
As much as I would like to say a touch screen I really feel they will be saving the tablet for Mac World. I envision a Star Trek looking pad and I so can't wait for that to become a reality. So that is what I have my money on. Lets see what happens!!

BTW here is a link to the live events:

My new ink and some old ink touched up

I finally got the second part to my tattoo project. Back in 2000 I got the top tattoo to signify my passage from high school to college. It means "Truthful and Special". Yesterday I finally got one for graduating college and all the things that came along with that time. It means "Warrior". When I finish my Masters I want to get a Chinese dragon to tie it all in.

1994 Volvo 850 AC and REC lights blinking fix

A couple months ago my blower motor in my Volvo stopped working out of the blue. The two lights on my control panel (AC and REC) would just blink when I tried to turn the fan on. I knew the compressor was fine because when I got up to speed I could feel the cool air coming through the vents.

The first thing I tried was to replace the blower motor. I got one off eBay for $70 and installed it pretty easily but it didn't work.

The second thing I did was to replace the ECC (the electronic controls in the dash). I bought it for $80 on eBay and it didn't work either.

I finally broke down and took it to a shop fully expecting to pay around $1000 to get it working. They diagnosed the problem and they told me it was the resister pack (they didn't charge me either..thanks Norman Young!!). I looked online and couldn't find it. I called my local Volvo dealer and told the lady the problem and she said the name of the resister pack is the "Power Unit". I went to the dealer and bought it for $89 and bo-bam after 2 months my fan worked without a problem!! Apparently that is a very common problem with the ECC units.

I hope that helps someone out there with a similar issue.

Most awesome gift ever!!

My wife has blown me away by buying me this new Raleigh bike. She surprised me by having it delivered and hiding it and then taking me to it. That is truly the most awesome gift I have ever received. Sorry Dirk the helicopter has dropped to number 2 under the bike. Now to just get to the point I can ride it to work.

What in the St. Lucas have you done to my Star Wars!!!???

After a very busy day leading a very busy week I decided to take my last night before classes begin to treat myself to go see Clone Wars. I knew it was animated, I knew it would be a bit different but come on....it is Star Wars right??? Oh hell to the naw!!! The movie centers around this off beat youngling/padiwan. I'm not goign to give any spoilers but I will say it just sucked all the way around. From the story line, to the fight scenes, to the off beat ramblings of the droid army. OMG please do not waste your money on this one if you are an older Star Wars fan it pissed me off big time. Even the theme song was revamped to ultimate suck-a-tood. I will say this though....if you have a kid that wants to imagine that they could become a Jedi one day like in the Dollar Tree fake coloring book novels then take them...they will love it. Old skoolers like me...stay far far away from this film.

Death to my Palm OS Centro

I'm gonna start this one off the proper way: "See what had happened was"-- Seriously the Centro failed me so I had to get rid of it but at the same time I wanted to make sure I gave a bit of input on why I had to let old girl go. To be honest I was trying to find an iPhone like device that I could use on Verizon wireless for the next two years until the iPhone is hopefully every where. Verizon was finally nice enough to drop the unlimited data plans for all smartphones to $29.99 + plan a month (as compared to $79.99 a month + plan). I really didn't want a Windows mobile phone because--well---Microsoft blows and I really haven't heard good things about the Windows Mobile OS in general. So I knew I was immediately limited to Palm OS and Blackberry. I own a Sony TH-55 Clie so I figured why not go with the Centro so I would have more versatility possibly. Well to paraphrase my buddy Dirk "1998 called and wanted their phone back." The OS is just to clunky for today. Don't get me wrong it is blazing fast in the way that Windows 3.1 would be blazing fast on a 2Ghz P4 system. But I still wanted to give the little OS that could a chance so I both purchased and downloaded the following programs and installed one of my old Palm favorites: Warfare Inc. ($29.99 back in the day), The Missing Sync for Palm ($49.99), Facebook for Palm (Free), Mundo IM ($10.00 but I used the free trial), and Opera Mini (Java is no longer supported on Palm but used the last version put out). Well the just plan sucked. To paraphrase Brother Steve "I don't mean that in a little way" lol. It isn't the fault of the device it is the fault of the OS that was designed at a time in which multimedia was not considered to be an integral part programming. Everything was clunky and just did not function as smoothly as a device of this caliber should. Even simple things like entering a date into the calendar was a long drawn out process. Simple things like going back to the previous screen was unavailable. There wasn't even a version of Google Apps for the Palm so I couldn't sync my calendars except through a backassward way of subscribing to my calendar RSS through iCal and praying it would sync over.

After much soul searching and realizing that I would be stuck with the Centro for to long hard years of my life I had to give the puppy back to Verizon and settle for a Blackberry Curve that actually works the way I can deal with until the iPhone leaves AT&T country. So that is my sorted tale of hope dashed. I say a fond farewell to my dear Palm OS and wish it a peaceful burning in the eternal flames of hell.

Much love,
~J

Antarctica Trip off till 2009

Unfortunately the project that my project supports has been hit with some budget cuts that have nixed the chances of going to Antarctica this field season. We are definitely going next year but it just sucks that I kind of rearranged my life in anticipation of not being here. Don't get me wrong it is a privilege to even have the opportunity but I was just really looking forward to it. At least Greenland is still on for next Spring. Plus I will have the time to get the 600 node grid fully operational. And I can actually take classes this fall and spring so it is all good lol.

I punked out -- I got (sigh) -- A Palm Centro

Ok I wanted/still want an iPhone but I just couldn't afford the new plans. The other issue is the fact that I would be paying more with no 3G access in my area. And AT&T just plain sucks in general. I still love my iTouch and I hate I punked out but I had to get a new phone. So I check dear old Verizon Wireless out and settled on the Palm Centro. I refused to get a Windows Mobile based phone...absolutely refused which is why I didn't get a Treo. So the Palm OS is a bit old school but at least I don't have to worry about it crashing in the middle of a call. Actually it kind of makes me nostalgic because of the whole Windows 3.1 look lol. The really cool thing is I still have the apps I bought for my old Sony TH-55 Clie that is collecting dust in the corner. Warefare Incorporated shall live again lol. I will post how my "out of the box" experience is when it gets here.

So Scarlett -- What have we learned??

A month or so ago I found this music video named "Yes we can" which features stars singing / speaking the words to an Obama speech. Well in the video Scarlett Johansson was singing her part which was kind of weird. I thought nothing of it until today I saw in iTunes the she had a CD out. I figured WTF and checked it out. Well--horrible absolutely horrible. She tried to cover Tom Waits songs which are odd on their own and are songs that only he can pull off. So when I saw that she only has a 1.5 star rating I start reading the reviews. OMG one of them actually calls it "Music to slits your wrists too" lol. Then I peak over at songs other users also bought and Bjork is one of the top hits. Um yeah....Scarlett stick to the big screen girlie lol.

Thank you Brother Steve, thank you lol

See, he does listen lol. (I wish there was a [Hell Yeah I wanna Learn More] button lol)

I want my 2.0 upgrade dang it!!

Last night (the night before Jebus Phone part 2) I saw the new iTunes was available. I'm thinking great, I can go ahead and purchase the new software for my iTouch right!!!,,,,,Wrong. It is currently 11:12am here in Greenland and the freggin software hasn't released yet. I mean WTF. te bad part is I already purchased Super Monkey Ball and grabbed a couple other freebee apps in anticipation. Come on Brother Steve let me bask in the glory of the 2.0 software with the app store and enterprise management. Let the Apple love flow down lol. It is already bad enough that I couldn't stand in a long line to get my iPhone with my fellow fan boys. At least let me have my upgrade. I am watching the live covereage of the lines, that shoudl count for something lol.

Jumbo Fish Davlu with chilli powder- Umm Umm that is some good eating

Ok so I was in the "Grillen" to get some hotdogs on the 4th of July. While I was in there, I saw three local girls eating what I could only describe as straw. They would pull the stuff out of the bag by the hand full, fold it down and cheww it like cows chew hay. So of course I had to try it. The girls didnt speak english so I asked Susy (our local cafe girl) what the crap it could be...and she said dried fish...and I could get it from the DVD store. Cools! So I went around the corner to the DVD/Game/Candy/ what ever they had that day store and dropped 45 krowner on a bag of the stuff. I couldnt bring myself to try it until today and well....it is actually good. It tastes like dried imatation crab meat. Humm maybe this could be the new americain taste sensation... No more chips which are full of saturated fats and bad stuff...eat the fish!!!

Logan - Iceberg Surfing in Ilulissat

Crazy but I had to do it --Barefoot Iceberg Surfing lol

Ok so this pretty good sized iceberg was slamming into the dock out in back of our cabin about 1:00am. I grabbed Logan, Anthony, and Eric and we went out side to try to hope on it. Unfortunately the one I could have stood on was just a bit to far out but there was a decent sized one on the side of the dock. Now you must realized that we have been talking about getting on an iceberg since we got here so this was our chance. Eric and Anthony punked out but Logan and I were all about it. Logan weighs about 100lbs lighter than I do so we actually got on. I am gonna post the film but since I couldnt I did the next best thing......barefoot iceberg surfing lol. I tell you one other thing too; my left foot hit tat water for a split second and I can honestly say the ice was warmer lol. Good land that water is cold lol.

beheld from my kitchen window. I had to put on some clothes and just go down and listen to the waters, smell the air, and thank God I was given the opportunity to witness it.

Tweaked my ankle on hike

So today we were off because the airport was closed. We all decided to take this 6 Km trail to see the Yackosloven Glacier. I was all pumped till we hit this area I lovingly call ankle twister alley about 3 Km in. Yep...it happened and yes I cried lol. Just kidding but I did turn beat red. The funny part is I saw the spot and decided it would probably be a problem so I carefully, gentally, rolled my ankle. I dont think it is broken just a bad srang but it did go pop. Eric helped me hobble my way back to the hotel where cold water, elevating the leg and pain pills have fill my day off. If I am still in this much pain in the morning I am going to hit the local hospital. I can move it though so I think it will be ok. At least I got some pretty sweet picts with I will post a bit later.

I am so gonna drive back when I get back into the states or at minimum catch a train. At the same time I have a good while to plan for that. I will post my gear tomorrow cause right now I am beat. Last item purchased -- Canon S5 IS (Yeah I changed my mind lol)

I know people are sick of hearing me talk about it but I finally bought the camera for my trick. I decided on the Canon S5 IS after all. [Hear me out before you start freaking Dirk or start jumping up and down Lance lol.] "See what had happened was..." I was really trigger shy on buying the SX100 for some reason. Well the time was up so I needed to make a decision. I was comparing the two cameras when I saw something I hadn't thought of, the SX100 does not have a view finder. The reason this is so important to me is because in low battery circumstances you can always switch over to squeeze the last bit of charge out of your AA batteries. Secondly I thought about the fact that I want to make some video blog entries and the swing out screen just makes all the sense in the world at that point. The other thing is that Circuit City had it on sale for $299. So I figured don't cheap out and I got the camera. I also picked up a 4Gb SDHC card. I hope it was worth the extra cash. Now watch Dirk say "Meh.." to that one lol. So anyway that was my purchase. Tomorrow gonna post a couple picks of my gear and maybe even a vid but we will see.

3G for Jeaime lol -- Jebus rizes again lol

After much debate, I am getting a 3G iPhone....finally lol. I have been wanting an iPhone since last January but I just couldn't justify changing companies, paying $500 for the phone and paying 60 bucks for the plan. I just couldn't. Well after the wife telling me to shut up about it and to just get the phone and the price drop, it is so on lol. Unfortunately I will be out of the country release day but the second I get back I am so getting my phone. The catch is now I have this 16Gb iTouch that is just a month old that cost the same as my soon to be 16Gb 3G iPhone. [WTF They are so gonna have to do something about that price difference. I mean I know the iPhone is subsidized now but that is gonna cut into those iTouch sales just a bit. ] Maybe Apple will give me some kind of credit or at minimum I might be able to convince my wife to let go of her nano witch is not very likely lol. I guess my iTouch is eBay bound lol.

"Snow Leopard" is No Leopard

So apparently Mac is going to do something a bit different with it's new OS. They are going to optimize it. At first though this seems like a cheap trick but when you think about it it, that is pretty freggin awesome. They want to take a pretty awesome OS and make it run better and they are saying that right out of the gate. They are telling we fan boys to back off with the new features and just make it run like a Ford Festiva with a V8 in it. Snow Leopard unfortunately will not ship for another year but I am cautiously optimistic!

Here is Apple's Official Word-

Since 2001, Mac OS X has delivered more than a thousand innovative new features. With Snow Leopard, the next major version of the world’s most advanced operating system, Mac OS X changes more than its spots, it changes focus. Taking a break from adding new features, Snow Leopard — scheduled to ship in about a year — builds on Leopard’s enormous innovations by delivering a new generation of core software technologies that will streamline Mac OS X, enhance its performance, and set new standards for quality. Snow Leopard dramatically reduces the footprint of Mac OS X, making it even more efficient for users, and giving them back valuable hard drive space for their music and photos.
